Stay Classy State College...

The residents of State College like to have themselves some fun.

I know because I've lived and breathed the nightlife air for the past eight years while working at a bar downtown.  I've attended my fair share of parties as a Penn State undergrad and been part of multiple weddings .  Without a doubt, celebrating in State College has been one of my favorite things to do in this town, and I'm positive that I'm not alone.

The staffs are warm and friendly.  The people you're likely to have fun with are typically educated fun loving people who happen to be exceptional in a thing or two.  Typically the town remains forever young thanks to the perpetual cycling of students and alumni.  This leads to lots of laughing and exuberance, as well as thoughtful exchanges of ideas and values.

To keep it that way, I thought I'd offer up some quick advice for those about to go out to the bars in State College as a whole.  Whether you've just celebrated your 21st; you're a rock star alum; or you're someone just visiting, these are the things I feel most of us within the industry have supported over the years.

Rule #1.  Have fun.

We can identify with the celebratory night out.  The going out to relax, or dance, or flirt.  Some patrons are thinkers and explorers of the human condition.  Some just want to have a drink and be a little mischievous or escape the stress of a days/week's work.  All of which are welcome at a place as rich and diverse as State College.

If you aren't willing to put up with some of the negative aspects of the bar scene, just stay in.  If you're experience becomes emotional to the point of anger or sadness, take a minute to compose yourself, and then call it a night.  We'd all love to see you out, but we want you at your best.  We will always try to deliver ours.

Rule #2.  Understand the rules.

Understand that bars are not private parties.  We have certain standards that need to be maintained within our establishments that are for the good of the community, first and foremost, but also as a legal standard to protect our liquor license.

We also understand that most people will have signs of intoxication at different speeds.  Some people may be able to handle a lot.  Others perhaps not as much.  And it can vary from night to night depending on diet, exercise, and fatigue.

For that reason a mutual respect must be had for both the establishment and the customers coming in to the bar. If the staff asks you to leave due to intoxication and or behavior, then as customers, please respect their right to do so.  We will do our best to serve you in a timely matter and allow you to enjoy the affects of alcohol responsibly.

Rule #3.  Have Fun.

We will try to produce an atmosphere that is enjoyable to all present.  We typically will take requests for music, or television programming if able.  We will try to make your drinks right, deliver them in as timely a fashion as we humanly can.  We will try to recognize our regular customers and let them know that they are appreciated. We want State College nightlife to be a safe, fun place where everyone is welcome to have a good time.

Right now it's great to be alive and in State College, and I hope that feeling never leaves.  I hope to see you all out and about over the next few years, celebrating and enjoying life with the people whose business it is to make sure you have a good time.
